With the onslaught of cooler temperatures, a quick cross examination of my wardrobe reveals some not so startling evidence.....Black on black, and a foray into fringe and snakeskin this season.
Whilst embracing scales on boots can only be a good thing, the central heating and icy temps have caused my winter skin to become somewhat reptilian too. My weapon of choice.....Aesop's hydrating geranium leaf body products.
And, with an 'investment' bag (fashion speak for costs a 'lotta' dollars) thrown into the mix, you could say I'm somewhat 'skinspired' right now.
For party dressing I'm in favour of shelving the opaques and dipping my toes into something altogether more glam. These Aquazzura sandals have been buzzing around my head for a while......I blame too many close encounters on my Instagram feed, especially on the stunning Savina Chai.
But, I'm all for exploring alternatives, particularly when my bank balance says otherwise, and this Missguided look-alike isn't a bad place to start.
Faux fur has climbed the ranks with hero status this season. Exuding modern cool, the furry stuff has never been so much fun, with electric colours, bold stripes, and quirky designs thrown into the mix.
For down time pairing, throw a faux fur coat over jeans and a chunky knit sweater. Or, for some chic after dark drama, conceal and reveal with a slip of a dress underneath......It's pretty much guaranteed to get you noticed. Whatever incarnation, it's the ultimate in laid back luxe, that's sure to keep you looking ultra cool and super cosy this winter.
We need to talk about Xmas? Granted it's still November, but it's one of my favorite times of year to start adding a touch of luxe to my wardrobe. To be honest the contents of my closet all year round heavily feature the essential favorites, black, grey, navy and white (in case you hadn't noticed), all with the less detail the better. But the idea of some sartorial sparkle, that works with my can't-live-without pieces has been at the forefront of my mind.....Enter, a sequin pencil skirt. It could be said it's a reflex reaction to all that chunky knitwear I've been wearing on a daily basis, and yes it's a statement, I know. But, it's also a timeless classic that works with all the go to basics. I'll be playing down the bling, with a simple menswear grey roll neck sweater (OK the knits haven't entirely disappeared) to keep the look clean and chic. So, come this holiday season I guess you could say that I'm 'going for gold', with the perfect balance of feminine luxe, meets masculine casual......Just the way I like it.
In other news, have you seen my newly updated Pinterest boards? Consider my index digit now surgically attached to the Pin it button (Mr N-A-D. thinks so anyway), as it's fast becoming my new addiction.
When it comes to winter dressing there's really nothing more luxurious or warmer than pure cashmere. From top to toe this is the season to get down and cosy with this timeless classic. The simplicity and beauty of cashmere comes from being able to casually throw it on with your favorite old ripped jeans, or for the ultimate in laid back chicness (a.k.a. the fine art of looking 'perfectly imperfect') why not ditch the usual skinny jeans/nice top combo, and rock up to a casual winter supper invite wearing a slouchy cashmere sweater over a simple maxi. Solving all your wardrobe dilemmas, you'll be super stylish, relaxed, and warm as toast too....... (We do have a lot of drafty old houses up here in the Cotswold's!)
I'm sometimes as guilty as the next person wanting to recreate the high fashion looks I see on my style crushes. But, I always ask myself, will I still love it when the trend has passed, and the answer more often than not is 'no'. Investing in the classics and saving on the trends is the mantra I try to go by. I can't swear I'll always be true to the cause, but the credit card is in temporary lock down til the Christmas shopping begins...... (Well, for now anyway!)
